Abstract
As from the mid 50's, the population size began to be considered in relation to geopolitical needs and development projects, while international organizations with the intention of influencing over reproductive patterns in the Third World started to proliferate. In this context, Argentine defended its autonomy and tried to design a population policy bearing in mind its particular situation of population fall. The third peronist government included this problem into its governmental plan and went beyond words when it implemented, for the first time in this country, coercive measures over the free access to contraception. These measures brought along important social discussion that took place in the press, in medical corporations, and in the streets, by means of the actions of the feminist movement and the Homosexual Liberation Front. In this article propose to illuminate this issue practically unattended by the historiography, by rebuilding the epochal cosmovision over the demographic problem, the contradictions inside the government regarding the best way to proceed, its repercussions and the resistance they produced. We consider it necessary to have a deep knowledge about this issue and its negative consequences over the 'contraception culture' in this country.
