The formation of the market, price trends and the effects of privatization of public land during the expansion of the frontier in southeastern Cordoba
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article discusses how the land market and prices developed in the Departamento Unión [Union District] in the province of Córdoba between 1860 and 1880. On the one hand, we describe the instruments used by the State to privatise the land and the consequences of this on public land value, the evolution of said value during the period and the impact this had on the sale conditions of real estate. On the other, we follow the trading of these properties among private buyers. In the first place, we analyse the average annual price. This indicator helps identify the main market trends in the period under study. In the second place, we further this study by breaking down the real state into two categories: estancias [farms] and plots of land. The latter are, in turn, subdivided into three groups depending on their size and probable economic use
