Entre el nativismo y la biopolítica: Eugenesia y antisemitismo en Estados Unidos

Este trabajo explora el modo en el que el antisemitismo fue adoptado por discursos eugenésicos, lo cual instituyó el prejuicio contra los judíos, intensificado en Estados Unidos por la reacción nativista. La hipótesis sostiene que, durante las primeras tres décadas del siglo XX, el antisemitismo estadounidense no fue sólo la expresión de un prejuicio racial o religioso, sino que se integró en la racionalidad biopolítica moderna, modulada a partir del marco teórico de la eugenesia. Fue, fundamentalmente, a través de leyes anti-inmigratorias de carácter eugenésico, que el antisemitismo popular confluyó con los intereses de la eugenesia, que entendía al judaísmo como un problema biopolìtico. Desde una perspectiva de historia cultura, que pone el acento en los imaginarios antisemitas contemporáneos, eugenistas como Harry Laughlin, Charles Davenport y Madison Grant serán analizados para examinar el vínculo entre ciencia, Estado y extremismo de derecha en la producción de un antisemitismo “aplicado”, fundamentalmente a través de medidas migratorias.
